Aaron Salters served thirty years in the Buffalo Police Department before retiring in 2018. Upon his retirement he started a company of his own whereupon he could pursue his passion of building sustainable vehicles that ran on green energy sources, particularly water. He was a brilliant scientist who held several patents and looked forward to the day when his ideas would be picked up by the major auto manufacturers. He was one of the most intelligent and selfless people that spent most of his life in service.
Lt. Salter gave his life trying to protect the customers and employees of Tops market because
he cared for all people in the community no matter what race, creed, sex, or color.
His heroic efforts allowed countless individuals the opportunity to live though he and 9 other innocent souls perished from their wounds.
While many would stand by and say someone must do something, we said, we WILL do something! We believe we can turn tragedy into Triumph! In honor of his name and legacy Lt Aaron Salters memorial scholarships will go to
graduating seniors from a financially disadvantaged family. The money is to be used for books, laptops, transportation costs and whatever supplies necessary to improve his/her chances of successfully matriculating freshman year of college. All items must be purchased at college bookstores (unless authorized prior by the board.)

Bruce Smith, of Buffalo Bills fame and an NFL Hall of Famer, was moved by the act of white supremacy in a black neighborhood in the city where he rose to fame. He reached out to Lt. Salter's friends, and retired police officers to assist in an effort to start the Lt. Aaron Salter Memorial Scholarship.
Retired Buffalo police officers and longtime friends of the late Aaron Salter are, from left, Bradford Pitts, Earl Perrin and Nate Goldsmith. They are at the center of founding the Lt. Aaron Salter Memorial Scholarship.
